Its the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend!!!! Good luck to all of you running in the races this weekend! Whether it is your first or twentieth have a wonderful time and enjoy the run!

Whether you’re a first-time participant or a seasoned RunDisney veteran, race weekend at Disney is packed with excitement, logistics, and opportunities to make magical memories. With a little planning, you can navigate race weekend seamlessly and make the most of your experience. From expo details to pre- and post-race recommendations, here’s what you need to know to ensure a smooth, stress-free RunDisney weekend.

Race Weekend Logistics

1. Health & Fitness Expo

The Health & Fitness Expo is your first stop of the weekend and is where you’ll pick up your race bib, race shirt, and any other pre-purchased merchandise. The Expo also features numerous vendors showcasing the latest running gear, fitness equipment, and official RunDisney merchandise. Be sure to arrive early for the best selection, as popular items tend to sell out quickly.

Location: ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

Hours: The Expo typically opens two days before the first race and runs throughout the weekend. Hours vary, so be sure to check the event guide.

Tip: Plan for at least a couple of hours to explore, pick up your bib, and shop. If you’re participating in a challenge (like the Dopey Challenge), make sure to pick up all race bibs for each race.

2. Bib Pick-Up

You must present a valid photo ID to pick up your race bib at the Expo. Be sure to double-check your race packet, including timing chip, bib number, and shirt size, to ensure everything is correct before leaving.

Tip: If you’re traveling with family or friends, consider having them join you for a fun expo day, but be mindful of crowd levels. Mornings tend to be busiest.

3. Race Start Times & Locations

RunDisney races typically start early, around 5:00 AM, to take advantage of cooler temperatures and to minimize disruption to regular park operations. Make sure to check your race guide for the specific start time of your race.

Tip: Disney resorts offer complimentary race transportation to and from the start/finish lines. Be sure to board the buses early (usually around 3:00 AM), as traffic can be heavy near the race venues.

Navigating Race Weekend Events

Health & Fitness Expo: As the hub of RunDisney weekend, the Expo is where you can attend speaker panels, meet race sponsors, and find exclusive merchandise. Take advantage of the Expo to stock up on any last-minute running gear or energy gels you may need.

Tip: If you’re interested in RunDisney race-themed gear, head straight to the official merchandise booth. Popular items, especially race-specific pins and apparel, sell out quickly.

Race Morning Tips:

Get there early: You’ll need time to get through security and walk to the starting corral, which can sometimes be a 15-20 minute trek.

Stay warm: Mornings can be chilly, so bring a layer you don’t mind tossing once the race begins. Disney donates all discarded clothing to charity.

Fuel up: Eat a light breakfast and hydrate before the race, but avoid anything too heavy.

Pre- and Post-Race Recommendations

Pre-Race Carb-Loading

Before race day, it’s essential to fuel your body with energy-rich carbs. Luckily, Disney has plenty of dining options where you can indulge in pre-race pasta or pizza. Here are a few of the top spots to consider:

Via Napoli (EPCOT): Known for its authentic Italian pizza and pasta dishes, this restaurant offers plenty of carb-loading options.

Trattoria al Forno (Disney’s BoardWalk): Offering hearty Italian dishes like spaghetti, lasagna, and flatbreads, it’s perfect for a pre-race meal.

Tony’s Town Square Restaurant (Magic Kingdom): This cozy Italian spot in Magic Kingdom serves up classic pasta dishes that will leave you ready to run.

Post-Race Relaxation

After conquering your race, it’s time to unwind and celebrate! Disney offers a variety of ways to relax, whether you’re looking for a quiet spa day or a fun park experience.

Senses Spa (Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa): Indulge in a post-race massage or spa treatment to soothe sore muscles and rejuvenate.

Disney Resort Pools: Head back to your resort and relax by the pool. Many Disney resorts feature luxurious pools, perfect for kicking back after your run.

Le Cellier Steakhouse (EPCOT): Celebrate your achievement with a delicious meal. Le Cellier offers a variety of indulgent post-race dining options, from hearty steaks to fresh seafood.

Make the Most of Your Race Weekend

Race weekends can be busy and overwhelming, but with proper planning, you can enjoy both the races and the Disney magic around you. Here are a few additional tips:

Book Early: Race weekends bring in large crowds, so be sure to book your hotel, dining reservations, and park passes well in advance. Staying at a Disney resort ensures you’ll have access to complimentary race transportation and other amenities that will make your race morning easier.

Plan for Downtime: Between races, make time to relax. Schedule downtime in your itinerary for things like spa visits, pool time, or quiet strolls through the parks.

Bring Your Family: RunDisney events are fun for the whole family! Consider planning additional activities for your non-running family members so everyone can enjoy the weekend.
